Well, it sure has been a crazy week around here. Last you heard from us was when Eli got his stitches. Since then we have had the stitches removed and had an additional ER run in between. Wednesday at work they told us that we needed to start packing our offices up. The flood waters were coming. They built a 5 foot wall all around the bank. I spent $600 on my bank credit card for food and water for the volunteers. That day I grabbed my "essentials" box and it was a good thing I did. Thursday morning we woke with intentions of going to school and work but Eli wasn't being himself. In fact he cried when he tried to stand up. He said his leg hurt. I figured it would get better with time but the tears welled up in his eyes. I called Matt and we called Eli's doctor (who of course was flooded out due to mandatory evacuations). We ended up going to the ER at Mercy Hospital. Escorted by Grandpa and Grandma. Thankfully they were there to calm my nerves. I was hesitant to go to the hospital because of the massive flooding in Cedar Rapids. In fact I put my head between my knees as we crossed the Cedar River on Hwy 30. That road later closed while were at the hospital. After a couple hours of the hospital and a couple blood tests and x-rays Eli was given the green flag to go home. The doc thought he just jarred his hip and that was causing the pain. The biggest triumph was getting back over the Cedar River. There were threats of closing I-380 bridge. That was our only route home. After bumper to bumper traffic we finally celebrated getting over the bridge with some knuckles. It was a stressful day with flooding and a trip to the ER. Later that night/morning they evacuated Mercy Hospital. That very ER was surrounded by 4 foot of water! The next morning Mammie watched Eli so I could go to work at our Cedar Rapids SW branch. Eli RAN down the hallway. It was so great to see his hip was getting back to normal. While at work I kept hearing stories of my home office. Water surrounded it and finally by Sunday night there was 2 foot of water in the building. I've heard rumors that the branch will be closed to for 6 to 12 months! Only time will tell. Like I said it's been a crazy week. The picture above is a picture of the bank I work at. It is the building in the lower left hand corner surrounded by water.
